NASHVILLE, Tenn. – RV/20 Vanderbilt soccer closes the 2024 regular season campaign Sunday afternoon hosting Alabama in a 3 p.m. kickoff. The match will be shown on SEC Network+.
Vanderbilt (8-2-6, 3-2-4) is coming a scoreless draw at LSU on Thursday night, the second straight clean sheet for the Dores. Keeper Sara Wojdelko tallied her fourth consecutive start and posted three saves. The senior keeper picked up her seventh shutout of the season and 11th of her career. The shot-stopper is now tied in fifth with Lauren Whitt (1998-2002) all-time in program history in the shutout category.
Alabama (9-4-5, 2-2-5) is coming off a 3-1 win over Florida on Friday with goals from Nedya Sawan, Gianna Paul and Itala Gemelli. Paul leads the pack with 23 points off 11 goals and an assist this year while Sawan has 16 points off six goals and four assists. Keeper Ellie Lanyi has appeared in the last five matches for the Tide and has 17 saves this season, including three clean sheets.
Sunday’s matinee will be the 30th of its kind in a series the Commodores lead 17-8-4 all time. The first meeting between the two foes was in Vandy’s inaugural season back in 1987, ending in a scoreless draw in Music City. The Dores traveled to Birmingham to visit then-ninth-ranked Alabama, resulting in a 1-0 Tide victory.
