Regional Battle with Blue Raiders

Vanderbilt eyes bounce back, hosts Middle Tennessee on Thursday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team returns home for a matchup with Middle Tennessee on Thursday at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.

The Commodores saw their four-match win streak come to an end in a 4-0 loss to No. 1 ranked defending champion Wake Forest at ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Dores turn their focus to Middle Tennessee (5-0), who Vanderbilt (4-1) defeated 4-3 in a road thriller last season. The black and gold lead the all-time series 33-12, with the last Blue Raider win coming in 2021. Middle Tennessee makes the short trip to Nashville riding their first 5-0 start since 2001.

Senior Nathan Cox has anchored it down for Vanderbilt through five matches. He leads the team in singles and doubles victories with four each. Cox and junior Hugo Coquelin notched their first ranked doubles win of the season against North Carolina, taking down No. 83 ranked Ian Mayew and Kase Schinnerer. Freshman Cayden Wang remains on a team-leading five match win streak in singles dating back to the fall season. Across singles and doubles, the Commodores are 6-3 against individually ranked opponents; Coquelin holds the highest of those wins after downing then-No. 21 ranked Aleksa Krivokapic of Purdue in October.

Coquelin along with sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez, freshman Jack Satterfield and junior Danil Panarin remain the four Commodores in the ITA individual rankings. Martinez Gomez leads the way at No. 62 in singles; Coquelin follows at No. 94. In doubles, Panarin and Satterfield are ranked No. 42 while Coquelin and Satterfield are No. 60. Middle Tennessee’s Karim Al-Amin and Andrej Horak represent the Blue Raiders in the doubles rankings at No. 18.

First serve between Vanderbilt and Middle Tennessee is set for Thursday at 5 p.m. Streaming will be available online with live stats accessible here. For more information, updates and exclusive game day content, follow the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team, @VandyMTennis, on Instagram and X.
