NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Junior defender Gabrielle Rademaker was named to the 13th annual SEC Soccer Community Service Team, the conference announced this week.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
The East Lake, Fla. native is one of the most active player on the Vanderbilt soccer team in terms of community service over the past year. She has volunteered at local organizations such as Live Your List and local elementary schools since her freshman year.
This past summer, Rademaker went on a month long service trip to New Zealand in hopes of bringing clean water solutions to the indigenous tribes all over the country. During her time there, she visited the local tribes and taught them how to use the water filters so they could access clean water on a regular basis.
Rademaker was also able to help raise money for the Sophie Elliott Foundation during her time there. The foundation was created to bring awareness to abusive relationships and help young girls get out of those relationships before it’s too late. She and the members of her trip helped auction off items at an event with all the proceeds going towards the foundation.
On the field this season, Rademaker has made 12 appearances as a key reserve off the bench. She has one goal and one assist on the season. Her assist came on Grace Jackson‘s goal in the 3-1 road win against Massachusetts. Her goal was scored in the first half against Missouri in a 5-3 win for the Commodores.
Rademaker and the Commodores will now await the results of the NCAA Selection Show to see if their season will continue. The show will air on NCAA.com Monday, Nov. 6th at 3:30pm CT.
