Birmingham, Ala. – Four Commodores – linebacker Chris Marve, tight end Brandon Barden, cornerback Casey Hayward and return specialist Warren Norman – have been named to the All-Southeastern Conference preseason team following a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches.

Marve, a senior from Memphis, was named to the coaches’ first-team unit. Barden, a redshirt senior from Lincolnton, Ga., Hayward, a senior from Perry, Ga., and Norman, a junior from Stone Mountain, Ga., were recognized on the coaches’ second-team unit.

The coaches’ preseason squad was announced by the SEC Office just one week before the conference stages its annual Media Days activity in Hoover, Ala. Writers attending SEC Media Days will vote on their own preseason all-conference squad.

It marks the second consecutive year that Marve and Norman were named to the coaches’ preseason squad. The duo were Vanderbilt’s only players recognized last year. Five Commodores were listed to the coaches’ 2009 preseason unit.

For Marve, Hayward and Barden, the coaches’ recognition is just the latest in a series of preseason accolades. Marve, the SEC’s active career leader in tackles, has been named as a candidate for the Nagurski, Lombardi, Bednarik and Lott IMPACT postseason awards. Hayward, second among returning SEC players with six interceptions in 2010, has been listed on the Nagurski and Thorpe awards. Barden is an early candidate for the Mackey Award given to the nation’s top tight end.

Marve and Hayward are scheduled to appear at SEC Media Days next Friday with new Vanderbilt Head Coach James Franklin. They will be joined by two-year starting quarterback Larry Smith.
