Q&A with Matthew Fisher-Davis

Freshman Matthew Fisher-Davis comes to Vanderbilt from Charlotte, where he worked himself into one of the nation’s top perimeter shooters in the class of 2014. As a senior at Butler High School, the 6’5 wing man shot 67.5% from the floor, 49.1% from three, and 96% from the free throw line.

Fisher-Davis sat down and answered a few questions from vucommodores.com about his life on and off the court.

The one NBA player you wished was your teammate: LeBron James
Age I picked up a basketball: 9
When I was a kid I tried to be like: My Father.
A few words that describe the way I play basketball: Smooth with length, shooter.
What I need to improve on to be a better player: Talking, becoming more aggressive.
The thing that impresses me most about Coach Stallings: Passion about the game and program.
Favorite part about playing at Memorial Gym: The history of the gym.
Favorite sport other than basketball: Baseball.
Favorite musical performer: Kendrick Lamar.
Nobody can believe I watch this TV show: The Big Bang Theory.
Favorite Internet Site: Twitter.
Favorite midnight snack: PB&J.
Worst habit: Love sweets.
The best tasting food I can make: Eggs.
Favorite athlete to watch in another sport: Derek Jeter.
Talent I’d most like to have: Singing.
Favorite thing to do away from basketball: 2K.
Favorite aspect of Nashville: Scenery.

Superstitions: None.
What I would do if I won the lottery: Rack up with shoes, give back to community.
Ultimate vacation destination: Hawaii.

The best advice I’ve received (and list who gave it to you): “Do your work up front.” – My Dad.
The most famous person(s) I’ve met: Stephen Curry.
Biggest influence in my life: Father.
Most important thing I’ve learned since coming to Vanderbilt: Academics are just as important, if not more important, than athletics.
My advice to young people is: Sacrifice things that aren’t as important as achieving your goals.
I chose to attend Vanderbilt over these schools: Texas, Georgia, Baylor, Kansas State, Virginia, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Alabama, Wake Forest.
