NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt lacrosse kicks off the American Athletic Conference Tournament playing top-seeded Florida in the semifinals on Thursday afternoon at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex. The matchup will start at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
Vandy, who finished 3-3 in conference play, topped Cincinnati last weekend, 14-9, to secure the final spot in the tournament. Kemper Robinson was named AAC Midfielder of the Week after a game-high three goals with an assist to go with a ground ball and a draw control. Robinson’s third goal of the game broke a 6-6 tie and gave the Commodores a lead they would not relinquish. Robinson leads Vanderbilt with 35 goals entering the postseason.
Florida finished the regular season undefeated in conference play, topping Temple last weekend to win the AAC regular season title for the fifth time since joining the conference. Maggi Hall was named AAC Midfielder of the Year while Elyse Finnelle was named Goalkeeper of the Year at the end of the regular season. The Gators’ coaching staff was also named Coaching Staff of the Year.
The two teams met in the regular season in Music City as Florida topped Vanderbilt 20-5. Danielle Pavinelli posted seven points and Liz Harrison recorded a game-high 14 draw controls.
The winner of the first semifinal will face the winner of 2nd-seeded James Madison and 3rd-seeded Temple which is set to start approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of the Vanderbilt/Florida game. The championship game will be held on Saturday at noon and shown on ESPNU.
