TEAM NOTES

  • South Carolina won the toss and elected to defer. Four captains represented the Commodores at midfield: Randon Fontenette, Richie Hoskins, Langston Patterson, and Khordae Sydnor
  • Vanderbilt is 3-0 to start the season for the first time since 2017
  • The Commodores beat South Carolina for the first time since 2008 and won in Columbia for the first time since 2007
  • Saturday’s victory was Vandy’s first road win over an AP Top 25 opponent since its 2007 win at No. 6 South Carolina
  • Vanderbilt won its SEC opener for the first time since 2011
  • Vandy has won each of its first three games by 20-plus points for the first time since 1943
  • With wins at Virginia Tech and South Carolina in back-to-back games, Vanderbilt has consecutive road wins over Power 4 teams for the first time since 2013
  • The Dores forced four turnovers on Saturday, the most since Oct. 10, 2022 vs. Missouri
  • With an interception in the first quarter, the Commodore defense has forced a turnover in five-straight games
  • Vandy’s defense has produced a three-and-out to open the second half in all three games this season

PLAYER NOTES

  • Junior Sedrick Alexander opened the scoring with a receiving touchdown and has scored in all three games to start the season. He also scored in each of the first three games last season
  • Graduate Zaylin Wood intercepted LaNorris Sellers in the first quarter, his first pick as a Commodore and third of his career
  • Graduate Diego Pavia threw two touchdowns in the first half, his 11th time as a Commodore with multiple touchdown passes. He has thrown for two or more touchdowns in four consecutive games
  • Sophomore Jamezell Lassiter scored a 44-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, Vandy’s longest rushing touchdown on the season. Lassiter has two touchdowns this season on two carries. He’s the first Commodore to score on each of his first two career carries since at least 2002
  • Junior Brock Taylor extended Vanderbilt’s lead in the fourth quarter with a 51-yard field goal. It was his sixth make from 50-plus, the most by a Commodore since at least 1996
  • Taylor’s 14 consecutive field goals are tied for the third longest active streak in FBS
  • Junior Martel Hight posted a career-high four receptions to go along with a pair of tackles
  • Senior Bryce Cowan recorded his first career forced fumble. It was recovered by South Carolina-native Miles Capers for his first fumble recovery
  • Senior Nick Rinaldi matched a career high with 2.5 tackles for a loss
  • Sophomore CJ Heard finished with a team-high 12 tackles, most by a Commodore this season
  • Junior Tre Richardson caught four passes for 34 yards. Richardson has three or more receptions in each of his first three games as a Commodore
