Pregame Notes

  • Vanderbilt is in its 128th year of organized football.
  • The Commodores wore black helmets, white uniforms and white pants for the road contest against Ole Miss.
  • Vanderbilt won the toss and deferred to the second half. Ole Miss elected to receive.
  • Attendance was 60,157.
  • Vanderbilt captains for the game were Khari Blasingame, Oren Burks and Ryan White.

Team Notes

  • The Commodores and Rebels faced off for the 92nd Saturday afternoon in a series that dates back to 1894.
  • Vanderbilt rushed for 188 yards against Ole Miss, the most against any opponent this season.

Individual Notes

  • Jay Woods received his first start of the season.
  • Jordan Griffin and Cody Markel got their first career starts against the Rebels.
  • Ralph Webb moved up two spots to 14th all-time for rushing yards in the SEC, passing Derrick Henry and Alex Collins with 3,750 career-rushing yards.
  • Emmanuel Smith sacked Shea Patterson in the first quarter for his first career solo sack. He was credited with half a sack earlier this season against Alabama A&M.
  • Webb rushed for a 38-yard touchdown run to tie the game in the second quarter. It was his longest rush of the season and the longest since a 49-yard scamper on Oct. 22, 2016 against Tennessee State.
  • Trent Sherfield hauled in a season long 38-yard reception in the second quarter.
  • Webb tallied his second rushing touchdown later in the second quarter. It is his first multi-touchdown game on the ground this season and first since Nov. 26, 2016, against Tennessee.
  • Webb finished the game with 23 carries for a season-high 163 yards and two touchdowns. He has five touchdowns in his career against the Rebels, the most of any opponent.
  • It was Webb’s first 100-yard rushing game of the season and the 14th of his career. It was also Webb’s most rushing yards against an SEC opponent in his career.
  • Donaven Tennyson broke free for a 48-yard rush late in the second quarter. It was the longest rush of his career and the longest run by a Commodore this season.
  • Kalija Lipscomb hauled in a 13-yard reception before the half for his fifth touchdown of the season to lead all Commodore receivers. He finished with four receptions for a season-high 58 yards.
  • Cameron Tidd recorded his first career sack in the third quarter when he brought down Shea Patterson on second down.
  • Shurmur connected with Jared Pinkney for a 1-yard passing TD in the fourth quarter. It was Shurmur’s fourth game this season with multiple passing touchdowns.
  • Deuce Wallace threw his first career touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter when he hit Trent Sherfield for a six-yard pass.
  • LaDarius Wiley led the Commodores with 11 tackles Saturday afternoon. It is his fourth game with double-digit tackles this season.

Offensive Notes

  • The Commodores’ eight play, 97-yard drive in the second quarter was the longest since Oct. 28, 2006 against Duke. In 2006, the Dores had a five play, 97-yard drive capped off by a 77-yard touchdown pass from Nickson to Bennett.
  • Vanderbilt rushed 21 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns in the first half.

Defensive Notes

  • The Commodores forced a three-and-out on the Rebels opening drive. It is the third time this season the Dores have held an opponent without a first down on the opening drive.
  • Vanderbilt has recorded a sack in all seven games this season following Emmanuel Smith’s sack in the first quarter.

Special Teams Notes

  • Sam Loy punted four times for an average of 38.8 yards.
