Head Coach Kevin Stallings
Opening comments
“We started off slowly offensively, but we guarded very, very well. We got better defensively tonight, and when we got on track offensively, we got things going in the second half. We were sluggish in the first half, and they were doing some things that bothered us.”
On limiting Utah State leading scorer Jaycee Carroll to only 11 points:
“Shan was fabulous guarding Carroll tonight, and Andre Walker was good as well. We just had a great team defensive effort.”
On Jermaine Beal’s play:
“Jermaine Beal was a key factor for us, with six assists and no turnovers.”
On having only 11 turnovers:
“We did a good job not turning the ball over. We needed to do three things well tonight – hold on to the ball, do a better job of rebounding defensively, and increase our intensity on the defensive end. I think we did all of those things very well tonight.”
On the second half:
“It was a pleasure to coach the second half. Our guys were very aware of what was going on. We had great intensity from everyone on every possession.”
Sophomore Guard Jermaine Beal
“At the half, we knew our offense was struggling but our defense was solid. We knew we just had to make some shots and we would be alright.”
“Coach Richardson did a great job on our scout for these guys. We knew what they were doing for most of the night.”
On the defense:
“Again, the coaches did a great job on the scouting, and Shan did a great job on Carroll. It really was about teamwork tonight.”
