Pregame Notes
– Vanderbilt started junior Jermaine Beal, sophomores Darshawn McClellan and A.J. Ogilvy, and freshmen Jeffery Taylor and Brad Tinsley. Vanderbilt is 3-2 when using this starting lineup in 2008-09.
– Beal leads the team with 51 career starts. Ogilvy made his 15th start of the season and 49th of his career. Taylor made his 17th start of the season and his career, and Tinsley made his 15th consecutive start this season and 15th of his career. McClellan has now started in nine games in 2008-09 and 11 games in his career.
First Half
– Mississippi State won the opening tip.
– The Bulldogs held a 32-27 lead at the half.
– Vanderbilt’s largest lead of the game and the half came at the 17:16 mark when the Commodores led by six.
– Mississippi State reeled off a 13-2 run at the end of the first half to give the Bulldogs the lead for good.
– Jeffery Taylor and A.J. Ogilvy led the team at the half with eight points apiece. Lance Goulbourne led all Vanderbilt players on the glass with five rebounds.
– Vanderbilt committed 10 turnovers in the first half.
– The Commodores limited MSU to a 35.7 shooting percentage in the first half. Vanderbilt shot 36.4% in the first half.
– The Commodores are now 0-5 when trailing at the half.
– With 2:11 remaining in the first half, freshman Brad Tinsley hit a three point basket, pushing the Commodores streak with at least one three in a game to 715 consecutive games.
Second Half
– Vanderbilt shot 55.2% in the second half, and Mississippi State shot 63.6% from the floor in the second half, the highest second half shooting percentage for a Commodore opponent this season.
– Taylor led all Vanderbilt scorers with 10 points in the second stanza.
PostGame Notes
– With the loss, Vanderbilt falls to 12-5, 1-2 in SEC play.
– The Commodores had four players in double figures. Jeffery Taylor led all Vanderbilt players with 18 points, which tied a career high he set against Alabama A&M on December 10. Ogilvy and Jermaine Beal each scored 14 points, and Brad Tinsley added 12 points.
– A.J. Ogilvy has scored in double figures in every game he has played in this season (15 games). He has now scored in double figures in 47 of 49 career collegiate games.
– Beal has scored in double figures in five of last six games. Vanderbilt is now 10-2 this season when he scores in double digits, and 23-3 in this three-year career.
– Taylor has scored in double figures in 13 games this season; Tinsley has scored in double figures in 12 games.
– The Commodores gave up 73 points to Mississippi State, the second highest total for an opponent this year. UIC scored 74 points on December 3.
– Mississippi State shot an opponent-best 48.0% from the floor, only the fourth Commodore opponent shoot over 40% this season.
– Vanderbilt outrebounded Mississippi State, 37-28, on the night. The Commodores are now 11-2 this season when outrebounding their opponent.

– Goulbourne and Ogilvy led Vanderbilt in rebounding with six apiece.
– Twelve Commodores appeared in the game Saturday night. Jamie Graham played in his second game of the year, and guard Charles Hinkle played for the first time since the Massachusetts game on January 3.
– The Commodores committed 17 turnovers on the night, the most since the Tennessee Tech game on December 20 (17). MSU outscored Vanderbilt 19-18 on points off turnovers.
– The Commodores shot only eight free throws against Miss. State (5-for-8), the lowest total of the season. The previous low came against Georgia on January 14 when Vanderbilt shot 11 free throws. Mississippi State was 18-of-22 from the free throw line.
– Vanderbilt lost for the eighth consecutive time at Humphrey Coliseum. The Commodores’ last win in Starkville came in 1993. Vanderbilt leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs, 71-43. Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings is now 5-7 all-time against Mississippi State.
