Pierre Earns Fourth SEC Weekly Honor

The Queen Creek, Arizona, native earned her fourth SEC Freshman of the Week honor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Tuesday, the SEC announced that Vanderbilt women’s basketball player Khamil Pierre has been named SEC Freshman of the Week. It is the fourth time this season that Pierre has earned the accolade.

The 6-2 forward averaged 5.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in a pair of SEC contests last week. It is the second-straight week that Pierre has been named SEC Freshman of the Week, while she earns her fourth SEC weekly frosh accolade of the season, extending her school record for most SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Pierre’s four SEC Freshman of the Week selections are the second-most for a player this season, just behind Arkansas’ Taliah Scott’s five.

Pierre opened last week scoring a team-high 11 points, while she pulled down a team-best eight rebounds in last Thursday’s 49-45 win at Texas A&M. It marked the 10th time this season Pierre has scored 10 or more points in a game, while the 11-point performance against the Aggies extended her double-digit scoring streak to a season-best three games. Pierre’s performance helped Vanderbilt pick up its first win over Texas A&M in College Station since Nov. 18, 1997.

The freshmen tied her career high in steals later in the week, as Pierre picked off three passes in last Sunday’s loss to Tennessee. Her three-steal performance against the Lady Volunteers marked the fourth time this season that Pierre has had three steals in a game. The Queen Creek, Arizona, native added six rebounds and two assists to her stat line against the Lady Vols.

The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team returns to action Sunday, as the Commodores travel to the Natural State to take on Arkansas. Tipoff against the Razorbacks is set for 2 p.m. and will stream live on SEC Network+.
