NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia is one of five finalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award it was revealed on Wednesday by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
The winner of the award, which is selected by the 136 NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports communicators, will be announced on Dec. 10 on ESPN’s College Football Live.
A leading candidate for this season’s Heisman Trophy, Pavia has completed 242-of-340 pass attempts for 3,192 yards and a school-record 27 touchdowns while also leading the Commodores in rushing after adding 826 yards and nine scores on the ground. His 4,018 yards of total offense also set a program season record, as he leads the SEC and is second nationally with an average of 334.8 yards per outing. Pavia also is first in the conference in passing efficiency, passing touchdowns, completion percentage and yards per pass attempt, ranking among the top 10 in the country in each of those categories.
The Albuquerque, New Mexico, resident was named the Walter Camp National FBS Player of the Week after Commodore victories over Utah State and Auburn, and has been selected the SEC Offensive Player of the Week on three occasions as well.
Pavia has helped Vandy to a 10-2 record this season, the first time in program history the Dores have posted a double-digit win total.
