LAHINCH, Ireland. – Vanderbilt men’s golf seniors Gordon Sargent and Jackson Van Paris guided the United States to a second-straight Arnold Palmer Cup victory over the weekend.
Sargent went 3-1-0 in his matches at the 2024 Palmer Cup, while Van Paris went 2-2-0 over three days of play at Lahinch Golf Club. It marks the third straight year that Sargent has collected three wins at the Palmer Cup as he now has nine total victories at the event. Meanwhile, Van Paris scored a pair of wins in his Arnold Palmer Cup debut.
Their performances helped Team USA claim a second-straight Palmer Cup, as the United States scored the 32.5-27.7 victory over a team of the best international collegiate players. It is the first time since 2018 that the U.S. has won the Arnold Palmer Cup at an international venue.
The pair of Commodores got the weekend started by picking up a victory in Friday’s mixed four-ball matches. Sargent teamed up with Anna Morgan to collect the 4&2 win over Emma Bunch and Filip Jakubcik. Van Paris and Mary Kelly Mulcahy scored the 1-up victory against Carla Bernat and Josele Ballester.
The Vanderbilt duo opened Saturday by dropping their foursome match, but each recovered in the afternoon and collected wins in their mixed foursome match. Sargent again teamed up with Morgan and picked up the 2&1 win over Ballester and Bernat. Van Paris and Mulcahy knocked off Ryan Griffin and Kate Lanigan, 2-up, as the United States and the international team went into Sunday’s finale at the 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup tied at 18-all after 36 matches.
In Sunday’s singles matches, Sargent scored a 5&4 victory over Bastien Amat to post his third victory at this year’s Palmer Cup. Van Paris and Calum Scott were tied up through 15 holes in their match on Sunday. Scott claimed two of the final three holes to score the 2-up victory over Van Paris.
