Pair Picks Up All-Freshman Nod

Sedrick Alexander and London Humphreys were named to the league's rookie team

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt freshmen Sedrick Alexander and London Humphreys were named to the SEC All-Freshman team. The vote by the league’s coaches was announced Thursday.

They become the first SEC All-Freshman team selections at Vanderbilt since 2018. It marks the first time multiple Commodores have been selected to the All-Freshman team since 2010 when Wesley Johnson, Kenny Ladler and Walker May all received the honor.

Alexander led the Commodores in rushing and rushing touchdowns during his true freshman season this fall. He led all SEC freshmen with 371 rushing yards this season and was the only freshman in the conference with four or more rushing touchdowns.

The Austin, Texas, native played in all 12 games, finishing with 96 carries and 371 yards for four touchdowns. He totaled 504 all-purpose yards. He scored twice versus Alabama A&M in his second collegiate game, racking up 87 yards on the ground. He was the first Commodore running back with multiple touchdowns in a game since 2019 and was named honorable mention by the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award for his efforts. Alexander also scored touchdowns against Georgia and Kentucky.

Humphreys also played in all 12 games, recording 439 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He was one of three SEC freshmen to record at least four receiving touchdowns on the year and had the fifth-most receiving yards by a freshman in school history.

The pair joins two other Commodores in receiving postseason honors from the league’s coaches. On Tuesday, it was announced that punter Matthew Hayball was first team All-SEC and long snapper Wesley Schelling made the second team.
