NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt sophomore defender Sasha Cielak earned second-team All-America honors from Inside Lacrosse magazine and womenslacrosse.com, the two publications announced recently.

In only her second year as a Commodore, Cielak solidified her position as Vanderbilt’s best matchup defender. She led the team in caused turnovers for the second straight year, ranking among the Top 30 in the country, and was also first on the team in ground balls.

The Sparks, Md., native was routinely called upon to shut down the opponent’s top scoring threat, matching up against three of the nation’s Top 10 goal scorers. A dependable and fierce defender, Cielak always stepped up her game in clutch moments. In Vanderbilt’s 9-8 win over league-rival Ohio State, her fourth caused turnover of the game led to VU’s game-winning score as time expired.

Earlier this month, Cielak earned first-team All-Conference recognition from the American Lacrosse Conference and second-team All-West/Midwest Region honors from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association.
