Vandy has two teams move into top three on the school’s all-time performer list

ATHENS, Ga. — Vanderbilt swimming opened action at the SEC Championships Tuesday at Gabrielsen Natatorium with two relay teams recording performances that now stand among the top three in program history.

The Commodores’ 200 medley relay and 800 free quartets both posted their best times of the season to accomplish the feat.

“We’re really pleased with their swims tonight, those girls swam their hearts out,” head coach Jeremy Organ said. “Each day is a new day so it is a good set up for tomorrow, we’ve got a lot of swims that we have to come ready for. It was a really solid start to the meet, I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do tomorrow.”

The first individual events of the competition will take place on Wednesday, with prelims in the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free set to begin at 8:30 a.m. CT.

Meet Highlights
-The Commodores posted a season-best mark in the opening event of the meet with the performance of Aubrey Hull, Emily Constable, Karsyn Cook and Megan Ciezczak in the 200 medley relay.
-The quartet of Libby Gilbert, Mercedes Traba, Kate Heintz and Reagan Mathieson accomplished the same feat in the 800 free relay to end the night.
-Vandy had one individual compete in the morning as well after Kailia Utley participated in time trials for the 200 fly.

Notes
-Gilbert, Traba, Heintz and Mathieson trimmed more than eight seconds off their previous best mark of the campaign after finishing the 800 relay in 7:20.53.
-In addition to moving into second place on the program’s all-time performer list in the event, the four met the CSCAA National Invitational Championship A standard for the first time this season as well.
-Hull, Constable, Cook and Ciezczak now stand third on the program’s all-time performer list in the 200 medley after posting a time of 1:39.77.
-The quartet became just the third team in school history to break the 1:40.00 mark in the event, missing the school record by just over three-quarters of a second.
-With a 1:49.49 time on her opening leg in the 800 free relay, Gilbert moved up to fifth on the school’s all-time performer list in the 200 free.
-Utley posted a season-low mark of 1:56.47 in the 200 fly time trial, coming within one second of her school record in the event set last season.
