Noted College Football Website Names Haye As First Team All-SEC Defensive End 12-10-03 Vanderbilt sophomore defensive end Jovan Haye was named First Team All-Southeastern Conference Wednesday by the highly regarded CollegeFootballNews.com website. Haye, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is the first Commodore to receive all-conference honors since the website began announcing its squad three years ago. He was one of three sophomores named to the team. Haye, who was named Second Team All-SEC by the 12 conference coaches on Tuesday, was one of four defensive linemen selected by CollegeFootballNews.com. Others included Georgia’s David Pollack, Kentucky’s Vincent Burns and Chad Lavalais of LSU. The website named Lavalais as its SEC Player of the Year. Haye shared the Southeastern Conference lead with 8.5 quarterback sacks, and ranked among the conference’s top five in tackles for loss and forced fumbles. Haye’s sack total was the most by a Commodore defensive end since sack records began in 1984, and the highest single-season total by a Vanderbilt defender in a decade. Haye, selected by teammates as a co-captain prior to the season, finished with 12.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and 10 quarterback hurries. He also contributed 45 solo tackles, the most by a Vanderbilt defensive end since 1980. The CollegeFootballNews.com website also listed Haye as the SEC’s 16th top player overall, and second best defensive linemen. Haye was the only Commodore named among the website top 30 players in the SEC. CollegeFootballNews.com All-SEC Defense DL – Vinny Burns, Jr. Kentucky DL – Jovan Haye, Soph.
