Commodores take on a pair of Big Ten foes this weekend.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The eighth-ranked Vanderbilt men’s tennis team travels to Columbus, Ohio, this weekend for a pair of matches against Big Ten foes Ohio State and Michigan State. The Commodores face the 16th-ranked Buckeyes on Friday, Feb. 13, at 3 p.m. CT, and take on the 56th-ranked Spartans on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 4 p.m. CT.

Vanderbilt (5-2) is looking to snap their first losing streak in two years against Ohio State Friday. The Commodores competed last weekend in the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships, defeating 12th-ranked California to advance to the tournament’s quarterfinal round before falling to No. 5 Stanford and then-No. 8 Duke.

The Dores defeated Ohio State last year, 6-1, in Nashville. This season the Buckeyes boast the nation’s No. 1-ranked singles player, Jeremy Wurtzman. VU senior Chad Harris, ranked No. 55 by the ITA, will be seeking to avenge a December loss to Wurtzman in the ITA National Indoor Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Three other Commodores find themselves in the ITA’s top 50. Junior Matt Lockin leads the group at No. 27, followed by senior Zach Dailey at No. 45 and junior Scott Brown at No. 46. Vanderbilt will return home next weekend to play host to another Big Ten opponent, Purdue, on Feb. 21, before beginning Southeastern Conference play the first weekend of March.
