BALTIMORE — Turnovers and missed scoring chances doomed the Vanderbilt lacrosse team in its seventh straight game against a ranked opponent.
The Commodores suffered a 13-3 loss to No. 20 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday at Homewood Field. Hindered by 18 turnovers and a season-low three goals on 19 shots, Vanderbilt (3-7) never led and dropped its seventh straight game.
Hopkins (7-2) held just a 5-2 lead at halftime. Earlier in the first half, Vanderbilt appeared to have pulled within one, 4-3, but an offsides infraction wiped away the goal. The Blue Jays scored the first three goals of the second half to grab an insurmountable 8-2 lead with less than 20 minutes left. Meggie Ramzy, Jill Doherty and Amanda Lockwood each scored and freshman defender Margaret Fee dished out the first two assists of her career.
Goalkeeper Maddie Kratz made her fourth start and set a career high with 13 saves, including seven in the first half. Senior captain Alex Duckenfield had three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
The Commodores stay out east and play Georgetown at 11 a.m. (CST) on Saturday in Washington, D.C.
