BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The 12th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team remained unbeaten with an 18-8 victory at Lehigh Sunday.
Senior goalkeeper Brooke Shinaberry made eight saves, including seven in the second half, as the Commodore offense again exploded to score double-digits in the first half for the third straight game.
Senior Margie Curran had a season-high six goals for Vanderbilt to lead six scorers. Sophomore Carter Foote added four goals, while sophomore Sarah Downing had three. Sophomores Laura Keenan (2), Anastasia Adam (2) and Allie Frank also found their way onto the scoresheet.
The Commodores scored the first four goals of the game, with Foote, Downing, Keenan and Curran all tallying in the opening eight minutes. After Vanderbilt opened up a 6-1 lead, the teams traded goals until Foote scored with six seconds left in the half to give VU an 11-6 lead at the break.
The Mountain Hawks would only score twice in the second half, as Inneke Carmola became the first VU opponent to score a hat-trick this year. Curran added four of her six goals in the game’s final 18 minutes.
Junior Cara Giordano and sophomore Sarah Downing both pulled five ground balls each, with Shinaberry, Curran and senior Sasha Cielak scooping four apiece.
