No. 10 VU Women’s Lacrosse Travels To North Carolina 4-8-04
4/8/2004 Commodores play at No. 15 UNC and conference-rival Davidson this weekend
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The 10th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team travels to North Carolina this weekend to face 15th-ranked UNC and American Lacrosse Conference rival Davidson. The Commodores will face the Tar Heels at Henry Stadium on Friday, April 9, at 6 p.m. EST, and then continue on to Davidson to meet the Wildcats on Sunday, April 11, at 1 p.m.
Vanderbilt is past the halfway point of the 2004 regular season with a 5-3 overall record, 1-1 in the ALC. The Commodores hold a 3-3 mark against ranked teams this season, including a 16-12 win over then-No. 10 Penn State to open their league schedule. Senior leadership has been the Commodores’ strength this season, with Michelle Allen, Lauren Peck and Jess Roguski pacing the VU attack and Bridget Morris, Joanna Mooney and Christiana Serle anchoring the Dores’ defense. North Carolina is 7-4 on the season, with their two wins over ranked opponents coming against ALC members Penn State and Ohio State. All four of the Tar Heels’ losses have been to teams currently in the IWLCA top 10. UNC is led in scoring by junior Allison Higgins, who has contributed 23 points through 11 games; But four other Heels also have chipped in 19 or more points for the balanced UNC attack. Davidson stands at 3-9 on the season and will be faced with the possibility of going winless for the conference season (currently 0-6) on Sunday. In 12 games this season, the Wildcats have been outscored 105-170. Eloise Grose and Lindsay Frank have combined to score 55 points for Davidson, which has lost four of its last five. The Commodores return home next weekend to face ALC-rivals Ohio and Ohio State on April 16 and 18, respectively. Sunday’s match will feature Vanderbilt Senior Day.
