Commodore Offense Hounds Bulldogs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt continued its perfect start at home this season with a dominant 19-2 win over Butler on Sunday at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.

The Commodores (8-2) saw their home record improve to 5-0 as they handled the Bulldogs with their strong offensive attack. Defensively, the Commodores played their best game of the year, causing 14 turnovers and allowing just two goals on 14 shots.

The two goals given up are the fewest the Dores have allowed since permitting one against Kennesaw State in 2015.

Vanderbilt opened the game with an 11-0 scoring run to start the game that saw nine different Commodores score in that stretch.

Gabby Fornia led the offense with a five-point performance, her second-highest in her career. She scored two goals and assisted on three other occasions to bring her to a team-high 25 assists.

Sophie Furlong recorded her third-career hat trick of the season with her three goals as one of five Commodores with multiple goals. Hadley Brown, Karlie Bucci and Emily Mathewson were the three others with two goals apiece.

Two Commodores recorded their first-career goals in Olivia Lagomarsino and Megan MacGillis, who both scored in the second half. The other Commodores to score were Julie Blaze, Mattern Burnett, Cassidy Orban, Elizabeth Scarrone, Maddie Souza and Callie Sundin.

Lily Argyle earned her sixth win of the season, recording two saves in the process. Grace Bell also saw time as goalkeeper and had two saves.

The Commodores begin conference play on March 31 in Greenville, North Carolina, against East Carolina. That game is set to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
