Team Record and Series Notes:
 
 – This is the 116th year of Vanderbilt basketball, with the first season taking place in 1900-01. There were no teams in the 1904-05 and 1905-06.
– Vanderbilt moved to 4-0 this season. It’s the first time Vanderbilt has started 4-0 since the 2015-16 season.
– Vanderbilt improves to 1-0 against Liberty as this is the first meeting between the two teams.
 
Team Notes:
 
– Vanderbilt fell behind 27-23 early in the first half and then went on a 11-0 to put them ahead, 34-27 with 3:58 remaining in the first half. The Commodores wouldn’t relinquish the lead after that.
 
– Vanderbilt has made a three-pointer in 1,035 consecutive games since the inception of the three-point line in the 1986-87 season.
 
Player Notes:
 
Darius Garland was one point away from setting a freshman scoring record as he scored 33 points in tonight’s game. He hit five three-pointers, which is also a career high for him. The freshman record belongs to Mike Rhodes, who scored 34 points on December 22, 1977 against Virginia Tech. 
 
It’s the most points scored by someone in the SEC so far this season.
 
The last time a Commodore scored 30 points in a game was Jeff Roberson against Auburn on Feb. 3rd, 2018. He is the recent freshman to score 30 points in a game since Alex Gordon scored 30 against Tennessee in 2005.
 
Saben Lee scored a season-high 17 points with six of those points coming from the charity stripe.
 
Matt Ryan knocked down a couple of three-pointers to end up with 10 points. He has made a three-pointer in all four games this season. He also had a career-high in rebounds, finishing with seven.
 
Clevon Brown had three blocks in the second half, which is a season high for him.
