BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A day after posting a 3-1 record in the qualifying draw, Vanderbilt’s men’s tennis team won eight of its 10 matches on Friday at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships.
Seven of Vanderbilt’s wins on Friday came in singles play, while five of the singles wins came in the main draw. Vanderbilt’s only doubles team in action was James Moye and Alex DiValerio, who advanced to the second round of the main draw. Vanderbilt’s other three doubles teams received first round byes and will begin play Saturday.
The Commodores’ day began with DiValerio and Alex Zotov advancing to the main draw with wins in the final round of qualifying singles.
Once in the main draw, Zotov advanced to the second round with a 6-1, 7-6 (3) victory over Nick Camilleri of Wright State. DiValerio was not as fortunate, falling 7-5, 6-4 to Sander Gille of East Tennessee State.
Joining Zotov with wins in the first round were Charlie Jones, Bryant Salcedo, Ryan Lipman and Vijay Paul. Losing in the first round was Adam Baker.
Vanderbilt will continue play at ITA Regionals on Saturday.
