MT: VU Defeats USC 5-2 in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team defeated South Carolina 5-2 in Columbia, S.C. on Sunday.

The Commodores (9-11, 3-7) earned their first conference doubles shutout of 2007, with wins from Ryan Preston/Vijay Paul, Evan Dufaux/Nik Cromydas, and Andy Mack/Jordan Magarik.

Vanderbilt was able to keep up its momentum through singles, going up 5-0 with straight set wins from Cromydas, Mack, Magarik and Paul.

Following the clinching match, South Carolina (11-11, 2-8) earned scoreboard time when Yevgeny Supeko defeated Vandy’s Ryan Preston in a super tiebreaker at No. 1.

Vandy’s Evan Dufaux finished the afternoon play with a thrilling 7-6 third set loss to South Carolina’s Pedro Campos at No. 3.

The Sunday win snapped an eight-match conference drought for the Commodores. The ‘Dores will play their final regular season match in Nashville next Saturday, April 14 against Kentucky at 2 p.m.
