The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team is in Gainesville, Fla. this weekend for the 2011 SEC Tennis Championships, hosted by the University of Florida. Vanderbilt, who is the No. 9 seed in the tournament, will face 8th-seeded Ole Miss on Thursday at 5 p.m. CT.
The Commodores closed out the regular season with a 13-9 record and a 4-7 mark in SEC matches. Vanderbilt went 4-2 in its final six matches, including 7-0 sweeps of South Carolina and LSU.
With five matches to go in the regular season, Vanderbilt made some changes in its doubles lineup, and won the doubles point in four of those matches. Ryan Lipman and Bryant Salcedo won all five of their matches they played together at the No. 2 spot.
Earlier this season, Ole Miss topped Vanderbilt, 4-0, at the Gillam Sports Center in Oxford, Miss. The match was played indoors due to cold weather and rain, and ended once Ole Miss clinched the victory. The Rebels went 11-8 this season with a 5-6 mark in the SEC. They close out the season with consecutive 5-2 losses to Auburn and Mississippi State.
Should the Commodores defeat Ole Miss, they will go on to face No. 1 seed Tennessee on Friday at 5 p.m.
