AUSTIN, Texas – Play three teams currently ranked in the top 21 on the road in a span of four days. That is the task Vanderbilt’s men’s tennis team was faced with in recent days. The Commodores finished the difficult stretch Tuesday with a 5-2 loss at No. 6 Texas.
The loss was the third in a row for the 37th-ranked Commodores, who fell to 4-6 on the season. Texas improved to 11-2.
Vanderbilt found itself in a hole early by losing the doubles point for the second match in row. Despite the loss, Vanderbilt has still won the doubles point in six of 10 matches.
The Commodores got their points courtesy of Vijay Paul and Alex Zotov in singles play. Paul came from one set down to defeat 125th-ranked Kellen Damico, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3), in the No. 3 position. Zotov defeated Jon Wiegand, 6-2, 6-4.
Vanderbilt will continue its road trip Friday when the Commodores open SEC play with a 1 p.m. match at No. 31 South Carolina.
