TULSA, Okla. – Competing for the first time this season, Vanderbilt junior Nick Cromydas was unable to completely remove the rust off his game on Monday, as he lost in the first round of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships.
Held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on Tulsa’s campus, Cromydas was topped by Virginia Tech’s Albert Larregola. Larregola posted a 6-0, 6-2 win over the Glenview, Ill., product. Larregola is ranked No. 100 in the Preseason ITA rankings, while Cromydas checks in at No. 74.
“Nick had a tough time today, and unfortunately he made too many mistakes,” head coach Ian Duvenhage said. “His play wasn’t a surprise to me because he missed all of this summer and has only been able to practice for ten days because of injury. He will continue to get back to full strength the more he plays.”
Cromydas will conclude play at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships with a consolation match on Tuesday.
