ATLANTA – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team concluded play at the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational on Monday afternoon. The duo of of Alex DiValerio and Bryant Salcedo were the champions of the double B main draw while the pair Adam Baker and Charlie Jones claimed the doubles A consolation draw title.
After defeating Matus Mydla and Pedro Scocugla of Atlantic Armstrong in the second round of play, DiValerio and Salcedo beat Georgia State’s Thomas Cook and Trenton Spinks, 8-4, to advance to the championship match. The Commodore duo faced another pair from Georgia State in the final match, Juan Pablo Gutiemes and Lucas Santana, winning 8-5 to claim the title.
In the consolation draw for doubles Flight A, Baker and Jones defeated Clemson’s Mortiz Dettinger and Dominique Maden, 8-3, in the first round before topping Garrett Brasseaux and Campbell Johnson of Georgia, 8-6, in the semifinal match. In the final match, Baker and Jones picked up an 8-4 win over Middle Tennessee’s Elliot Barnwell and Matt Langley to win the draw.
Sophomore Ryan Lipman begins play at the D’Novo/ITA Men’s Tennis All-American Championship on Thursday, while the entire team will return to action Oct. 21 at the ITA Regional in Lexington, Ky.
