AUBURN, Ala. — Vanderbilt once again produced a last-minute goal, scoring in the final moments Friday at Auburn to earn a 1-1 draw on the road.
After scoring twice in the last three minutes Sunday at Missouri, Vanderbilt again needed a late goal on Friday against the Tigers.
With Auburn up 1-0 and just 31 seconds remaining, an Auburn defender fell on top of the ball in the box and the Commodores were awarded a free kick near the penalty spot. The Tigers put all 11 players on the goal line and saved the initial kick, but Ella Shamburger settled the rebound and netted her third career goal to equalize at 1-1.

“We have some fight and some heart. We weren’t as sharp as we hoped for parts of the game, but with all the changes it’s a credit to the team to find a point on the road tonight,” head coach Darren Ambrose said.
Auburn jumped ahead with a strike from distance in the 18th minute from Grace Sklopan. It was just the fourth goal the Commodores defense has allowed all season.
Vanderbilt remains undefeated on the road this season.
Vanderbilt moves to 8-1-2 (2-1-1 SEC) while Auburn moves to 4-3-5 (0-3-1 SEC). The Commodores return home to host Georgia on Thursday, October 6, at 7 p.m. on SEC Network+.
