KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Both Kate Heintz and Liv Gooding recorded performances that rank among the top 10 on the Vanderbilt swimming all-time performer list to lead the Commodores on Day 3 of the SEC Championships at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center Thursday.
Not only did Heintz accomplish the feat in the 100 fly, she was part of the 400 medley relay that ended up on Vandy’s all-time top 10 list as well. Gooding was able to do the same in the 400 IM in the morning too.
“We’re just plugging away at the week and hanging on strong,” head coach Jeremy Organ said. “You know, Kate’s one who has really had some great performances in this last little stretch and she’s continuing this week which was fun to see. Now we’re looking forward to having some great races tomorrow.”
Action will continue at the SEC Championships on Friday, with preliminary heats scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. CT and finals set for 4:30 p.m. in the 200 breast, 50 free and 500 free.
Meet Highlights
-Heintz was Vandy’s top finisher in the opening event of the morning, the 100 fly.
-In the 400 IM, Bailey Ratzburg placed in the top 40 to lead the Commodores.
-Madelyn Porter led a group of six Dores in 200 free prelims.
-The Dores’ 400 medley relay included Aubrey Hull, Melissa Cowen, Heintz and Ryen Bosuro.
Notes
-It’s the second occasion this season that Vandy has had a 400 medley relay post a time in the top 10 in school history, with the group finishing in a season-low 3:42.01 to now stand seventh on the list.
-With a career-best 55.15 mark in the 100 fly, Heintz not only moved into eighth place on the Dores’ all-time performer list in the event she also made the CSCAA National Invitational Championship B cut.
-Gooding followed by moving into the top 10 all-time at Vandy in the 400 IM with a career-low 4:25.66 time.
-Porter’s mark in the 200 free—the junior posted a time of 1:50.55—was the best of her collegiate career and the fastest by a Dore in the event this season.
-Meredith DiPasquale matched the fastest time of her career in the 100 fly after touching the wall in 55.59.
-Freshman Ava Allingham had a mark of 57.00, the lowest of her career, in the first heat of the event as well.
