ATHENS, Ga. – Freshman Kayla Moran has put in great swims all throughout the 2014 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships and Wednesday’s performance was no different. In the 100-yard butterfly, the Longwood, Fla. native finished off her second individual school record of the week, touching the wall at 54.62. Her time was only .02 seconds faster than Lauren Torres’ 100 fly record from last season.

Moran’s time held up for 26th in the group, seven-tenths of a second behind the 24th and final qualifier in the event.

Without any relays on this third day of SEC’s, the Vanderbilt women’s swimming team will not compete in the finals session at the Gabrielsen Natatorium. The Commodores will remain in 12th place with 94 points.

The morning session started with the 400 IM with both Alyxandra Vernon and Alexandra Blankenburg. Vernon finished just two-hundredths off her personal best time, clocking in at 4:31.02. Freshman Blankenburg finished at a time of 4:22.78, for a personal best and new freshman record. It took a time of 4:19.61 to qualify for the C final.

Along with Moran, Vandy had five others swimming the 100 fly. Rachel Koch and Chrissy Oberg both set personal records in the event, finishing with times of 55.73 and 56.05, respectively. Torres (55.26), Rebecca Young (58.13) and Kathryn Coughlin (1:01.24) round out the 100 fly group.

The biggest event of the day for the Commodores came in the 200-yard freestyle, where Vanderbilt had nine entries.

Hannah Martin and Carrie Bencic paced the groups, clocking in at 1:50.82 and 1:50.97. Christina Wang (1:54.37) and Lauren Egan (1:52.24) broke their all-time best times.
