Missed Opportunites

No. 10 South Carolina defeats Dores 6-1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team fell for the second time this weekend against top-10 opposition, this time to the 10th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks 6-1 at the Currey Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

The visiting Gamecocks (12-7, 7-4 SEC) grabbed the doubles points with wins at Nos. 1 and 2 to seize the match’s early momentum. The Commodores’ (6-13, 0-10 SEC) duo of Jeremie Casabon and Connor Robb-Wilcox were on the way to a positive result, but went unfinished at 4-3 at No. 3.

In singles action, South Carolina did not let up as it took the three singles matches necessary to clinch the match on the way to earning five of the six singles courts.

Joubert Klopper took the lone Commodore point in a three-set win, clinching it in a tiebreaker 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (6).

The Commodores will return to action for the final weekend of the regular season hosting Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Friday’s match against the Bulldogs is slated for 2 p.m., and Sunday’s contest with the Rebels will start at noon.
