The Vanderbilt men’s golf team will participate in the inaugural DICK’s Sporting Goods Collegiate Cup this Friday through Sunday at the Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs. Five teams from the SEC and ACC will play Friday and Saturday in a 54-hole stroke-play format, with the two conferences paired against each other in a match play format on Sunday.
The Commodores will be joined by Texas A&M, Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Georgia representing the SEC, while the ACC teams in attendance are Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Virginia, and Wake Forest.
Thirty-six holes of stroke play will be played on Friday, and 18 on Saturday. On Sunday, the ACC and SEC teams will be matched against one another according to their finish in the 54-hole stroke-play portion of the tournament.
For the Commodores, senior Charlie Ewing, juniors Ben Fogler and Hunter Stewart, sophomore Spencer Ciesla, and freshman Matthias Schwab will participate in the tournament this weekend.
The Golf Club of Tennessee will be set up as a par-71, 7,144-yard layout.
“We are really excited to play in a home golf tournament and to be a part of the DICK’s Sporting Goods Collegiate Cup on what is one of the best golf courses in the Southeast in the Golf Club of Tennessee,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “It’s an opportunity to play in front of a lot of our fans and supporters, and that’s really exciting for our program.
“As a team, we just want to continue to build on some of the positive areas a few weeks ago at the Carmel Cup,” said Limbaugh. “That’s the expectation. To continue to grow, to get better, and to push ourselves to be more. We’ve had a good couple of weeks of preparation and we’re excited about the opportunity to compete and be the best we can be.”
