The Commodores’ men’s golf team begin their spring season this Saturday and Sunday at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., at the Mark Bostick Golf Course, which will be set up as a par 70, 6,701-yard setup.
Vanderbilt, ranked number 19 in the latest Golfstat polls, will compete with the host Gators, College of Charleston, Florida State, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville, Liberty, Missouri, North Florida, South Florida, UAB, UCF, UMKC, and Winthrop.
The Commodores will send senior Zack Jaworski, junior Matthias Schwab, sophomore Theo Humphrey, and freshmen Patrick Martin and Will Gordon.
“This tournament is a great opportunity to start our spring season because it’s a place we really enjoy going to and competing,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “We feel like it plays a big role in our progression as the spring season gets started and has taught us a lot of things about our teams in previous years. We like the energy that our guys have had in preparation and I know they are excited to have the opportunity to play together in a golf tournament again. The break from the fall season until now is a long time, and we have just tried to get a little better as a group each day. This week is important because it’s our next opportunity and because it will effect where we want to go as a team.”
Thirty-six holes will be played on Saturday, with the final 18 holes coming on Sunday.
