MG opens season Monday

The Commodores will open their 2010-11 season at the Invitational at Ocean Course on Kiawah Island in Charleston, S.C., Monday and Tuesday.

Vanderbilt returns six letterwinners from last season, with senior Ryan Haselden leading the way. Haselden was the team’s second leading scorer a year ago and was named an All-America Scholar by the GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America).

The Field:
The 12-team tournament field includes host College of Charleston, Davidson, Western Carolina, North Carolina State, Vanderbilt, Coastal Carolina, Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s (Calif.), Texas State, UAB, Maryland and Mercer.

The Course:
The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island will host the tournament. It was ranked No. 25 in Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest U.S. Golf Courses List and No. 4 on its Best Public Course List. With beautiful Atlantic coastline views from each hole, the course has played host to the 2007 Senior PGA and will host the 2012 PGA Championships.
