MG moves up three spots at Tavistock Collegiate

Second Round Results

WINDERMERE, Fla. – The ninth-ranked Vanderbilt men’s golf team finished the second round of the Tavistock Collegiate with a team score of 287 and moved up three spots on the team leader board to fourth at the Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Fla., and now has a two-round total of 578 (291-287). Senior Theo Humphrey is the team’s leader after two rounds with a 142 total (71-71), which ties him for seventh on the individual leader board.

Vanderbilt tied for the second-lowest team score of the day with their one-under 287, with the Commodores counting Humphrey’s 71, a 70 from sophomore John Augenstein, an even-par 72 from junior Patrick Martin, and a 74 from junior Will Gordon.

The Commodores are in fourth place with their 578 total, four strokes back of third-place California, and 13 strokes back of team leader Illinois.

“I thought the course played a little more difficult today with some of the hole locations and a bit more wind,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “I also thought we played with a lot more consistency and battled all day long which is what we want to be about. We did the simple things better which was important. John played well and hung in there to finish the round really strong and Theo was very solid.”

Individually, Illinois’ Dylan Meyer is the individual leader with a 11-under par, 133 (67-66), six shots better than second-place Gordon Neale of Florida, Mason Anderson of Arizona State, and John Axelsen of Florida.

“We took a solid step in the right direction today and we need to take another step tomorrow,” said Limbaugh. “I think the most important thing for us right now is to continue to be more consistent in all aspects mentally and physically. You have to earn your story and that’s the most fun part of the journey.”
