The #5-ranked Vanderbilt men’s golf team will head to their third consecutive NCAA Regional appearance and their first as a number one seed this Thursday through Saturday in New Haven, Conn., at the Yale Regional, which will be held at The Course at Yale. The Commodores’ selection marks the second time Vanderbilt has appeared in three consecutive regionals, with 2003-2005 being the other time.
The #1-seed Commodores will compete with #2 LSU, #3 South Florida, #4 Oklahoma State, #5 Arkansas, #6 San Diego State, #7 Iowa, #8 N.C. State, #9 Ohio State, #10 Troy, #11 North Texas, #12 College of Charleston, #13 Robert Morris, and #14 Saint Peter’s. The top five teams will advance to Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Fla., May 29-June 3.
“First of all, we are really excited about this opportunity and this regional,” said Vanderbilt head coach Scott Limbaugh. “The Course at Yale is a great venue and has so much tradition.”
The Course at Yale will be set up as a par-70, 6,803-yard format for the tournament, and the Commodores will tee off with #2 LSU and #3 South Florida off of the number one tee at 8 a.m. ET on Thursday. Eighteen holes will be played Thursday through Saturday, with live scoring found at Golfstat.com throughout the weekend.
The Commodores will send Hunter Stewart, Matthias Schwab, Theo Humphrey, Zack Jaworski, and Carson Jacobs to compete in the regional this weekend.
“Postseason golf is about trusting the work you have put in, focusing on the right things, and having fun,” said Limbaugh. “We have had a couple of great weeks of focused practice and the guys are ready to compete. This is our next step on the ladder and we need to embrace it.”
Thirteen teams were selected to three regional sites and 14 were selected in three others, with the top five teams from each regional advancing to the NCAA Championship, which takes place May 29 through June 3. Additionally, the top individual not affiliated with a qualifying team in the six regionals will also advance to the finals at Concession Golf Club.
