Move over Bill Murray and the PGA Tour, here comes the Commodores! Vanderbilt’s eight men’s golfers will make the trip to the Monterey Peninsula to play Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill with the Texas Tech golf team on Saturday and Sunday. Fifty-four holes will be played, 36 at Pebble and 18 at Spyglass, with each winning team receiving a point and all players counting their stroke totals for every round (medal-match play).
The first 36 holes, which will count as one round and take place on Saturday, will be played at Pebble Beach and Spyglass, with the final 18 holes being played at Pebble. The final round on Sunday will count as one round.
Now that the logistics are out of the way, vucommodores.com will be along for the entire tournament, snapping photos of the picturesque golf courses and asking the probing questions of the Commodore men’s golf team and staff as we go along (if you have a particular question, tweet us at @VandyMensGolf and we’ll be sure to ask them).
About Pebble Beach
One of the world’s most famous and scenic 18 holes, Pebble Beach has seen its share of quality golf through the years. Opened in 1919, Pebble Beach is a public course that was named Golf Digest’s number one course in 2001, the first public course to earn the distinguished honor, and has played host to the 1972, 1982, 1992, 2000, and 2010 U.S. Opens. Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Tom Kite, Tiger Woods, and Graeme McDowell have all claimed the U.S. Open championship on the vaunted grounds. Pebble Beach also hosts the annual AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which was won by D.A. Points and Bill Murray earlier this year.

About Vanderbilt Golf
Head coach Tom Shaw will take eight players with him and new assistant coach Dusty Smith to compete against the preseason-23rd ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders. Senior Adam Hofmann and freshman Hunter Stewart, who both played in this year’s U.S. Amateur, will compete for the Commodores, as will seniors Trey DelGreco and Charlie Grace, juniors Will Snipes and Ryan Thornton, sophomore Charlie Ewing, and freshman Ben Fogler. Each will compete in a match with a player from Texas Tech.
Hofmann returns as the Commodores’ leading statistical leader from the 2010-11 campaign, when he averaged 73.3 strokes per round and won medalist honors at The Hummingbird Intercollegiate in November 2010.
The Itinerary
The Commodores head to California on Thursday, arrive at Pebble Beach around 8 p.m. Pacific time, and play a practice round Friday morning at Monterey Peninsula Country Club on Friday morning.
Saturday is a busy day, with 36 holes split amongst Spyglass Hill Golf Course in the morning and Pebble Beach in the afternoon. Sunday’s final round occurs in the morning, and the Commodores head back to Nashville on Monday morning.
