KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – On the third day of the Ohio Valley ITA regional tournament, the Dores concluded their time in main draw play, falling short in the quarterfinals of doubles and the singles Rounds of 16.
Victory came early for the Dores in doubles as No. 1 ranked Cameron Klinger and Billy Rowe conquered the court in an 8-2 win against Middle Tennessee’s Morell/Motl, advancing the pair to the quarterfinals where they took on No. 9 Belmont duo Inno/Illics.
The Dore duo started strong in the match putting up a tough fight against the Bruins but fell short in the quarterfinals, 8-5, concluding Klinger and Rowe’s time at the ITA regionals in doubles play.
The Commodores’ play in the singles Round of 16 kicked off with No. 2-ranked Klinger taking the court against Middle Tennessee’s Morello. Klinger fell short in the first set, 6-1, and was ultimately defeated in a straight-set win for Morello; 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman Marcus Ferreira looked to make it to his first regional quarterfinals taking on East Tennessee’s Fontcuberta in the Round of 16 dominating the first set, 6-2. In the second set Ferreira lost momentum falling to a 5-7 defeat, leading the match into a third set. In the third set, Ferriera put up a tough fight earning four points but was ultimately outplayed by Fontcuberta, 6-4.
The Commodores take the court again Nov. 2 at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
