NASHVILLE- The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team wrapped up day two of the Commodore Classic earning seven singles victories and seven wins in doubles.
The Commodores welcomed No. 6-ranked North Carolina in the second day of competition, battling against the Tar Heels and Belmont Bruins in doubles play to start day two of the Classic.
The Dores earned three match wins in round one of doubles featuring freshman Macsen Sisam earning his third victory as a new Commodore. He paired with junior Panu Virtanen to defeat Belmont duo Joan Valy and Jake Briggs in a swift 6-1 match.
Success followed the Dores as they entered singles play with seven Commodores earning match wins.
Wrapping up the day with the second round of doubles, 47th-ranked duo Cameron Klinger and Billy Rowe competed in a close match, taking on Bruin pair Marco Illic and Hendrik Inno. The Commodore duo earned a slow start but came back to clinch the match, defeating Illic/Inno, 7-6.
Four Dores remain undefeated in the Classic after day two: Commodore pair Adam Sraberg and Alex Ross and Dore duo Vikram Chari and Jack Lee. Both doubles tandems won their matches as well as their respective singles matches to follow an undefeated day in singles matches against Belmont on Friday.
“This weekend has been going well for me so far. I’ve been playing really solid and I’m finding ways to close out my matches when I really need to. I think this last week of practice and the training I did over break has prepared me well for this weekend. I’m in a great place mentally so it feels really good to be undefeated on the weekend so far. I’m looking to keep this going into Sunday and hopefully stay undefeated after these next two matches,” said senior Ross.
The Dores take the court Sunday at 9 a.m. CT to compete in the final day of the Classic opening up with one round of doubles followed by singles.
