NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Wrapping up the Commodore Classic on Sunday, Vanderbilt men’s tennis closed strong with eight singles victories and one doubles win.
Kicking off the final day, the Commodores competed in doubles play against both Belmont and Chapel Hill with one Dore duo earning a victory.
Freshman Marcus Ferreria and sophomore Adam Sraberg battled against veteran Belmont duo seniors Joan Valy and Zak Khan. Holding the Bruins to just three points, Ferreira and Sraberg earned their first victory as a pair by taking down Valy and Khan, 6-3.
Ferreira maintained his winning streak and opened up singles play for the Dores against Belmont’s Illic. Falling short in a tight first match, Ferreira regained momentum heading into the second set to defeat Illic, 6-3. In the final set the freshman standout held Illic to just two points, wrapping up the match, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.
No. 62-ranked junior Billy Rowe continued the Dores’ successful singles run by defeating Belmont’s Joan Valy in three sets. The Commodore junior earned a slow start falling 4-6 to the Bruin. However, coming back strong in the second set, Rowe defeated Valy, 7-5. In the third set, Rowe wrapped up the match in a swift 6-2 defeat, earning Rowe his second singles victory of the weekend.
Senior Vikram Chari concluded play for the Commodores taking the court against Belmont sophomore Grant Kelly. Chari closed out the Commodore Classic defeating the sophomore in a straight-set win, 6-4, 6-3.
The Commodores are back in action at the Vanderbilt Currey Tennis Center this Friday competing in a doubleheader against Northwestern followed by Tennessee State.
