Atlanta, Ga. – The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team began day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational with singles play competing in the olde gold and white main draws.
Earning the first Dore victory in singles, sophomore Max Freemen defeated Georgia’s Alex Phillips by clinching a three-set match win, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2. The victory earned the Dore a spot in the olde gold semifinals.
In the white main draw, Alex Ross took the court against Virginia Tech’s Evan Fragistas and shut out Fragistas in the first set, 6-0. Ross fell short in the second set but came back strong in the third set to win, 6-2. Ross advanced to the white main draw semifinals.
Heading into the semifinals, Freeman competed against South Carolina’s Rafael Lambling for a shot at the championship round. Freeman started strong but ultimately fell short in the match losing 6-1, 6-1.
Competing in the white draw semifinals, Ross hit the court to take on South Carolina’s Jake Beasely. Ross fell 7-6 (6) in the first set and 6-3 in the second to drop the match.
In consolation matches the Dores earned a victory by freshman Jack Lee who competed against Virginia Tech’s Ryan Kros and earned a straight-set win; 6-1, 6-1.
