Knoxville, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley ITA Regional tournament opened up Thursday morning with the first round of doubles play.
No. 1 seed doubles pair Cameron Klinger and Billy Rowe kicked off doubles strong for the Dores by defeating Ozeis/Damberg (Austin Peay) in a swift 8-4 victory.
Following their win, another victory came rolling in for the Dores thanks to duo Alex Ross and Adam Sraberg. The pair defeated Graft/Lafavre (Xavier) in a close match, 8-7 (5).
Twelfth-ranked sophomore pair George Harwell and Max Freeman opened up their first match of the tournament against Lipscomb’s Chaw/Caffarena in a tough-fought match, but the two Commodores ultimately fell short in an 8-7 (5) defeat.
Following doubles play, Vanderbilt entered the first round of singles play in dominant fashion. The Dores went eight-for-eight in singles matches on the day.
Freshman Marcus Ferriera made his regional debut taking the court against Purdue’s Luna. Ferriera clinched a straight set 6-2, 6-1 victory.
Senior Alex Ross achieved the upset of the day taking down the No. 12 seed Saborio from Purdue in a straight-set defeat 6-3, 6-4 advancing Ross to the Round of 64.
All eight Commodores advance to the singles Round of 64 on Friday following the Round of 32 in doubles play. Friday’s matches will conclude with the Round of 32 of singles.
