MURFREESBORO, Tenn. –Vanderbilt men’s tennis defeated Middle Tennessee State Friday at the Adams Tennis Complex, 5-2.
The Commodores earned a slow start falling short to Middle Tennessee State in doubles on courts 2 and 3 with the Raiders securing the doubles point taking the lead over the Dores headed into singles, 1-0.
Bouncing back for the Commodores on court 1, senior Cameron Klinger defeated MTSU’s Gonzalo Morell in a straight set victory, 6-1, 6-4 tying the score 1-1.
Extending the Commodores lead to 3-0, sophomore Maxwell Freeman took down MTSU’s Tom Moonen, 6-1, 6-4.
Earning his third victory in dual play, freshman Macsen Sisam competed against MTSU’s Max Rauch defeating Rauch 7-5, 7-5 clinching the match for the Commodores.
Coaches decided to continue play with the Dores earning two final victories. Junior Billy Rowe defeated Chris Edge, 7-6, 6-3 followed sophomore George Harwell earning the Dores final point defeating Stijn Slump on court 2, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
The Commodores advance their record to 5-2 headed into Sunday’s doubleheader against Michigan State and Belmont.
