NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On Tuesday, the College Sports Communicators announced that Gordon Sargent, Jackson Van Paris and Wells Williams of the Vanderbilt men’s golf team were selected to the CSC Academic All-District men’s at-large team for their excellent performance on the golf course and in the classroom.
It is the second-straight year that Van Paris has been named to the CSC Academic All-District men’s at-large team, while it is the first selection for Sargent and Williams. Each student-athlete advances to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, which will be announced on July 9.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, maintain a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), and compete in 70 percent of tournaments that were team scoring events or be in the lineup during a conference championship. The CSC Academic All-District men’s at-large team consists of student-athletes who compete at the NCAA Division I level in ice hockey, lacrosse, water polo, fencing, rifle, skiing, golf, gymnastics, volleyball, and wrestling.
Sargent became the first Vanderbilt men’s golfer to win an individual national championship, as he earned medalist honors as a freshman at the 2022 NCAA Men’s Golf Championships. As a sophomore in 2022-23, he was named the Mark H. McCormack Medal winner and was Golfweek’s National Collegiate Player of the Year. Sargent was a six-time All-American during his four seasons at Vanderbilt, earning first-team honors three times each from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and Golfweek. The 2022-23 SEC Golfer of the Year won a Vanderbilt record six tournaments and helped the Commodores to 19 team titles during his tenure. He is the program’s all-time scoring average leader, with a mark of 70.32. His career-low 54-hole score of 17-under 196 is tied for the lowest three-round score in program history. Sargent graduated from Vanderbilt in May with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
Van Paris, who graduated from Vanderbilt in May with a degree in Human and Organizational Development, enjoyed a spectacular final campaign with the Dores in 2024-25. He led the team in stroke average at 70.03 strokes per round. The senior won the 2025 NCAA Amherst Regional, carding a career-low 8-under 202. It was his second collegiate win overall, and his first on American soil, as he previously earned medalist honors at the 2023 St Andrews Links Collegiate in Scotland. The Pinehurst, North Carolina, native finished No. 5 in the PGA TOUR University rankings to earn his Korn Ferry Tour card for the remainder of the 2025 season. The senior carded under par in a team-best 22 rounds and carded a season-best 5-under 65 in Round 2 of the SEC Championship. The All-American finished in the top 10 six times and placed inside the top 25 in all but one tournament this season.
Williams became the sixth Commodore in program history to win multiple tournaments in the same season, as he earned medalist honors at the 2025 Southwest Invitational and 2025 Mason Rudolph Championship. The West Point, Mississippi, native held a scoring average of 70.65 through 37 rounds. He won the 2025 Southwestern Invitational with a three-round total of 5-under 208, then he closed out the regular season by winning the 2025 Mason Rudolph Championship. The junior’s 54-hole score of 198 at the Mason Rudolph is tied for the fifth-lowest three-round total in program history. Additionally, Williams’ 15-under vs. par is tied for the fifth-lowest 54-hole vs. par score ever posted by a Commodore. His season-low 18-hole score of 8-under 63 set in Round 1 of the Mason Rudolph tied him for the fifth-lowest single-round total in program history.
