ATHENS, Ga. – The Commodores will open the 2006 fall season this weekend at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Georgia.

The tournament features three singles brackets, with a 64-man draw in divisions I and II and a 60-man draw in division III. The two doubles divisions will be comprised of 40 teams each.

“This is a very important tournament because through the years I’ve seen a lot of players arrive and get noticed at the Southern Collegiates,” Vanderbilt Head Coach Ian Duvenhage said.

“This is an opportunity for our players to show how they’ve progressed over the summer and for the freshman to see what college tennis is really about.”

Vanderbilt has three freshman for the 2006-07 season, all of which are expect to participate this weekend.

The Southern Intercollegiate Championships began in 1968, making it the oldest fall tournament in the region.
