NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the field set, the No. 24 Vanderbilt men’s tennis team begins the 2015 USTA/ITA Regional Championships hosted Thursday-Monday by the University of Tennessee at the Goodfriend Tennis Center and Knoxville Racquet Club.
Vanderbilt had a very successful 2014 regional; as the host school saw four Commodores reach the singles quarterfinals, and senior Gonzales Austin earn tournament runner-up honors.
In Doubles action then-No. 22 Austin and Rhys Johnson defeated Louisville to win the USTA/ITA Regional Doubles Championship title and the opportunity to play in the ITA Indoor Championships.
Vandy enters Thursday’s tandems action with two teams given tournament seeds. As the No. 1 seed in the field of 64, the senior/junior combo of Johnson and Pen Binet enjoy a bye in the first round of action. In singles action, five of the competing seven Commodores earned seeds, with sophomore Valent leading the squad with the No. 2 seed. Singles action is expected to begin around 9:00 am CT with seniors Yee and Johnson getting things started for the Commodores.
