Men’s Tennis Hosts No. 31 MTSU

4/4/2006

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Commodores will host MTSU on Wednesday for their last, and most pivotal non-conference match of the season.

The No. 31 Blue Raiders (11-6) have defeated several non-conference teams that the ‘Dores were unable to match, including Louisville, Rice, and Minnesota.

“This is a really important match for us,” VU Head Coach Ian Duvenhage said.
“This is a great opportunity because they have some really impressive wins, including Louisville, who was ranked 18th at the time. In the overall post season picture, this a great opportunity to improve our post season chances.”

MT has won six of their last five contests, with a recent win over South Florida (6-1).  The Blue Raiders currently boast a top 5 doubles team, Andreas Siljestrom and Marco Born.

The Commodores (7-9, 2-6) have notched eight consecutive wins against the Blue Raiders, including last years’ 4-3 win in Murfreesboro.

The ‘Dores recently jumped in the ITA poll from No. 75 to No. 61 after notching two vital SEC wins against Mississippi State and Tennessee.

The match will begin at 3 p.m. at the Currey Tennis Center in Nashville. The Commodores will follow up with their final regular season home matches of the season, facing No. 15 Florida on Friday and No. 43 South Carolina on Sunday.
