Men's Tennis hosts Commodore Scramble

Nov. 5, 2015

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — With the 2015-16 season just around the corner, the No. 24 Vanderbilt men’s team welcomes Alabama, Lipscomb, Louisville and MTSU to the Currey Tennis Center for the Commodore Scramble.

Scramble

The three-day tournament will begin Friday morning at 8:00 am with seven doubles matches. As inclement weather in the forecast, if it is raining teams will forego doubles and begin singles play with a ten-point tiebreaker in the third set. If weather clears at any point coaches will reevaluate and may go outside to finish up any remaining matches.

This weekend will give Commodore fans their first glimpse of two freshmen, Alex Ross and Vikram Chari, who help make up the Commodores fifth-ranked signing class.

Both student-athletes came to Vanderbilt with high remarks, as Ross was a five-star prospect and ranked No. 3 in the state of Illinois. Chari, a three-star recruit, moved cross-country from Saratoga, Calif. to join Ian Duvenhage and Jamie Hunt’s squad. In California Chari was the 32nd ranked player in the entire state.

Chari and Ross each competed for Vandy in Auburn, Ala. at the SEC Fall Classic and for the first time on home turf look to gain additional collegiate match experience. Vandy fans can also catch VU’s two ranked singles players No. 49 Daniel Valent and No. 116 Rhys Johnson in action against two of the Nation’s top-75 teams.
